How often do I need to replace my server? How about my workstations?

Last Updated: 12 years ago in Servers / Workstations – Return to Knowledgebase

It may vary from one company to another (condition of server room, cooling, dirt etc), but our main guideline is that a server should be replaced after approximately six years. Keep in mind that server warranty will expire even if you extended it by three more years, and you clearly don’t want to run your business on a server that is out of warranty and no one can guarantee you spare parts for it. The wear of server parts such as hard drives and cooling fans would be in the time frame of starting to fail, and you are always better off replacing a server when it is still alive, rather than waiting for the failure to take place. Just imagine the cost per day of not having a server running at your office. Multiply that number by 7 (about a week to get a new server), and that was your loss. Add to that costs of repair, overtime, and you see the big picture. We would advise you when it is time to make the move and replace the server, and save your company a substantial amount of money.
