There isn’t one answer that will be correct for everyone, but in general you want to keep a backup that you can roll back the data to that time if needed. For some companies this might be one year, for others it will be three years. It is also dependent on the type of data that you are saving. Oftentimes emails will be saved for at least three years. You will also want to get legal advice on the issue of data retention.
