Should I get an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)? Why?

Last Updated: 11 years ago in Servers / Workstations – Return to Knowledgebase

Absolutely. This is one of those little investments that will pay back big time. It is common to have electronic failure of either a hard drive, system board, or other electronic parts when there is spike or surge on a power line. If you even once saved your computer from losing a drive or system board – the savings will be 4 times the cost of a good uninterruptible power supply. Second reason is that you have the ability to properly save and shutdown your computer when you completely lose power. That QuickBooks database or a document you had been working on for the last hour (and didn’t save) is still on your screen even when everything goes dark – and you have about 10 minutes to save everything, shutdown the system and wait for the power to return. If you own a server – a UPS unit is a must.
