My friend is a tech guy and has a blue pouch of Microsoft CDs. He installed all of our software from these disks. Should I worry?

Last Updated: 12 years ago in System Integration – Return to Knowledgebase

Software licenses are very important, and it is in the best interest of your business to own legal licenses. It is illegal to have any tech use “Not For Resale” software out of his CD bag, and install server operating systems and/or Office packages at no cost. Microsoft monitors licenses and the penalty cost will be much greater compared to the actual cost of the license. A common scenario that we have seen a number of times is when a potential client is running an illegal installation of a Windows Enterprise server. In all cases it cost the client dearly since the server needed to be reinstalled from scratch with a real license and proper server software. Avoid any tech who offers to install “free” Microsoft licensed software. There is no such thing. If you have concerns about what is safe to install on your servers or workstations – give us a call and we can check it out. We are a Microsoft Partner.
