My desktop case is getting very hot. What can cause this?

Last Updated: 11 years ago in Hardware – Return to Knowledgebase

In our experience, we find that in most of these situations the cooling fan built in to the power supply stopped working, or simply got stuck. This is causing the power supply unit to work extra hard, and no cooling provided it will get hotter by the minute. If you find out that your computer is acting this way, you should properly turn the system off, and bring it in for service. We also have seen these issues with laptops that overtime get a cooling fan clogged with dust and dirt, to the point it stops spinning. Without repair, the end result could be damage to your CPU, or even worse, damage to the main system board. If you have concerns about the behavior of your desktop or laptop, you can call us and we can determine if there is a need to bring it in for service.
